NEW
YORK, NY – September 15, 2005 - World Art Media and Broadway
Gallery (473 Broadway,
7th Floor, New York NY 10013) are pleased to announce the opening
of Organically Speaking, a group exhibition
curated by artist Charles
Hecht. The exhibit runs from September 16th- 30th, featuring
works of four contemporary sculptors:
Harry Gordon, Michelle
Greene, Charles Hecht and Richard Polo. Organically Speaking
combines works made of organic materials
such as wood as well as
metal and synthetic sculptures, all unified in a celebration
of nature. The opening reception will
take place on Wednesday
September 21st, from 6-8pm.
Charles
Hecht will be premiering
his Coral Segment Series: Silver Sea Slug 2005, “This series represents a technique of combining
the creation of a metal sculpture and then ‘covering
it’ with essentially transparent glass to create the
type of scene and feeling
realized by an outsider looking into an unfamiliar world. To
express a concept or sensation, the
artist should not be afraid
to explore the use of new techniques and new materials. For
instance, in depicting a segment of
a coral reef, I use a cutting
torch to melt and manipulate the steel. As a result, the viewer
understands the resemblance
between the texture of
a coral reef and that of the volcano that formed it.”
